Summary:

San Francisco Waldorf School seeks a senior fundraising professional with 10+ years of related experience to manage a comprehensive development program.  The ideal candidate will have a broad fundraising background including experience with foundations, soliciting major gifts, capital campaigns and endowment building.  While an independent school background is preferred, candidates with development experience in the non-profit or private sectors will also be considered.  This position reports to the Head of Administration, and will work closely with the Board’s Development Committee.

Principal responsibilities: 

    • Formulate a comprehensive development program in consultation with the Head of Administration and the Board of Trustees Development Committee.
    • Develop and implement programs designed to generate $1 million annually in private support.
    • Expand and manage all fundraising efforts including annual fund drive, major gifts and grants, planned giving, corporate contributions/matching gifts, endowment fund and donor events.
    • Significantly enhance funding from major gifts and foundations for endowment fund and capital projects.
    • Establish organizational structure for Development Office and supervise personnel.
    • Direct donor acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship programs and manage donor events with assistance from community volunteers.
    • Conduct prospect research and arrange opportunities for Board members to meet their peers within the San Francisco philanthropic community.
    • Enhance SFWS community awareness profile through participation in events and conferences.

    Qualifications:

    • Extensive experience in fundraising, with successful track record in soliciting major gifts.
    • Proven skill in planning and executing fundraising strategies and campaigns.
    • Knowledge of best practices/principles of fundraising.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, constituency building skills and ability to win the confidence of others quickly.   Flexibility and the ability to problem solve and manage ambiguity with grace and humor.
    • Highly organized, thoughtful and pro-active person who works independently and will interact in a persuasive and professional manner with a wide variety of people.
